UIA – The Universal Israelite Alliance

Since 2000, the institution has been digitizing its archives, with the aim of making them accessible to as many people as possible. Today, 13,783 documents (prints, manuscripts, photographs), totalling 330,000 images, as well as audiovisual archives, are available to the general public and researchers.

Approach & Solution

The Alliance Israélite Universelle (AIU) is an international Jewish educational institution dedicated to promoting academic and professional success. Its role is also to ensure the transmission of an identity based on the tradition, culture, history and geography of the Jewish people and the State of Israel. Founded in Paris in 1860, the institution is the guardian of a history and a culture. This mission of preservation and mediation is the responsibility of a team of 6 people who manage the institution’s library (open to the general public) and historical archives.
With the aim of making its archives accessible to as many people as possible, the institution began digitizing its archives in 2000. In 2015, our partner Arkhênum and the Limb Gallery digital library began putting them online. Today, 13,783 documents (prints, manuscripts, photographs), totalling 330,000 images, as well as audiovisual archives, are available to the general public and researchers.
